With the introduction of Virtual Tape Servers, some users are left hungry for more. Virtual Tape Servers are limited in scope to only a few operating systems, mainly: OS/390, Z/OS, VM, VSE, AIX, Solaris, Windows 2000(NT), and HP/UX. This leaves some of the industry incapable of taking advantage of virtual storage – specifically Unisys users.

eMag unleashes MediaMerge/Connect. MM/Connect allows the connection of almost any processor to almost any storage platform or media. In the case of Unisys, MM/Connect allows ESCON or BMC connections to the processor from a VTS and/or 3494. Now, how does it work? MM/Connect presents itself as standard 3490 drives, supported by Unisys operating systems and hardware. Front-end emulation makes the storage medium behind MM/Connect transparent to the host. No program changes, no process changes, and no increased overhead on the processor; it is a seamless integration.

This allows users to make the move to Magstar automation and leverage the investment across the entire enterprise. Imagine a single piece of automation (IBM’s automated tape library) housing data for all of your hosts, from OS/390 to AIX to Unisys.

MediaMerge/Connect removes all the barriers.
